Head constable Nagaraj and constable Revanasiddappa, who were on night shift, detained three men - Manjunath and two others who were moving in an autorickshaw in a suspicious manner on Thursday night. They refused to share personal information and other details. Consequently, Nagaraj decided to take them to the police station and sat in the autorickshaw while Revanasiddappa followed them in a bike.

En route to the police station, Manjunath, who was driving the autorickshaw stopped it mid way while the other miscreants stabbed Nagaraj (57). A few members of the public noticed it and rushed to the help of the injured policeman. By then, Manjunath drove away the autorickshaw in a hurry but he lost control and the vehicle toppled. While the two miscreants managed to escape, Manjunath was apprehended. A case has been registered and a probe is on. Nagaraj is battling for his life, as he received severe stab injuries.
