10 Facts That Prove Heath Ledger’s Joker Was The Most Epic Character EVER!

1. Heath Ledger was not given any briefing whatsoever about the make-up and body language of Joker by Nolan.

2. Instead Heath Ledger spent 6 weeks in isolation, locked in a hotel room. Giving a method-acting performance of the century.

3. It was this painting by Francis Bacon, that inspired Christopher Nolan to imagine Joker in a way done never before. Nolan even took it to the make up expert to give an idea.

4. The make up artist John Caglione Jr. was walking completely out of his comfort zone when he went to design the make up look. He was worried it will wreck havoc on his job. So much so that the make-up was petrified of finishing the job.

5. This scene where Joker is walking out of the hospital and the bomb doesn’t go off in one go, so he presses it few more times, was an impromptu by Ledger. The explosion actually did not happen and Nolan was about to say cut, but watching Ledger immersed in character, he let it roll.

6. Given that one of the best make-up artists in the industry was on the job, Ledger didn’t want the look to be too polished. So he came up with the idea of rubbing white paint before every shot.

7. Despite the emotionally and psychologically complex character he was playing. Heath Ledger was a pretty chilled out guy on the set. And would be spotted skate-boarding around with full costume make-up on.
